September 16th is National Play-Doh Day!
Here is a fun fall recipe for homemade play-dough to try at home!
According to Allison Sonnier this is one of the best play-dough recipes!
Ingredients for the base recipe:
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 cup salt
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 3/4 cup boiling water
Directions: Heat the water to a boil. While the water is heating add the dry ingredients to the Kitchen Aid. That's Allison's secret to making perfect play-dough. Add the ingredients to the mixer, and the Kitchen Aid does its magic! The play-dough turns out perfect every single time.
Next add the vegetable oil. Once the water boils, at it to the mixer. It does not make a difference you choice to add the color and spice before or after the water. All of the batches turned out just right. Let the play-dough mix on a low speed until it reaches the desired consistency.
If you don't have a Kitchen Aid, you can still follow this recipe play-dough. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl, add the oil, add the color and spice, then add the hot water. Mix with a wooden spoon until the dough is cool enough to knead by hand. Knead for a few minutes until a dough is formed.
Some fun fall colors and spices Allison suggests using are:
Cinnamon=Brown
Nutmeg-Yellow
Pumpkin Pie Spice-Orange
Clove-Red
Apple Flavor-Green
