Dr Seuss and Read Across America Week

We are celebrating all things Dr Seuss this week in honor of his birthday March 2nd as well as Read Across America Week.  The National Education Association ( N.E.A.) encourages reading as well as educating people about it's benefits, especially among children and young adults and this is done by celebrating Read Across America from March 2- March 6th.   Dr Seuss made such an impact on the world with his over 60 books that when RAA was launched in 1998 it was declared that March 2nd would be Read Across America Day in honor of Dr Seuss's Birthday and kick off a week of reading that would be celebrated even today!

Our week started with a fun sensory bin representing Horton Hears Who with puffs and playdough, Truffula trees fork painting,  Crazy hair day, a special reading of the Cat in Hat and then ending with a Lorax Grab n' Go.  The love of reading is strong at AOFC and we loved kicking off our own Read Across America week celebrating Dr Suess!!

We love our Teachers week!

The week of Valentines was a very special week at AOFC where we not only celebrated love but we celebrated our incredible teachers and all they do for our school each and every day.  There were special lunches, treats delivered to classroom, love notes from their students and most of all lots of love and hugs for everyone especially the teachers!  Our school would not be the place that it is without the love and creativity that the teachers pour into their classrooms and students! We love our teachers at AOFC!

February kick- off

It's February and while that may include Groundhogs, Hearts, and Valentines there is lots of learning that goes on as well.    Each classroom got the opportunity to eat lunch with Chopsticks,  there will be a Valentine Freeze dance and several sensory activities just this week and we will round out the month with plenty more Valentine related celebrations, activities, and Grab n' Go's.  Then to help us round out both Black History month and February we will learn about Garrett Morgan who invented the stoplight.  AOFC learns and loves the month of February!

The Great Snowman Build off

At AOFC in these cold temperatures it is only fitting to have a Snowman build off with whatever materials or form of Snowman that you chose and we had quite the selection from a T-rex snowman to a snowman made of yarn and even a picture of a Snowman built to be a fireman from the recent Snowy weather we just had!  We love seeing all the entries and the sweet families plus kiddos who ran to visit the special Snowmen each night!! AOFC is so lucky to have so many creative and amazing families!

Playground Snowball Fight

We had an Epic snowball fight on the playground this week to help us ring in the impending snowy weather.  Even the Toddlers got in on the action throwing snowballs through the fence to the big kids who would then throw them back! Fun was had by all and new found skills throwing snowballs will likely get put to good use in these few weeks! We love snow and snowballs at AOFC!

AOFC Jingle Jam

Our Enrichment room was filled with oohs and ahs as Santa made his way to his special chair during our AOFC Jingle Jam where our families could talk with Santa, decorate an ornament and eat yummy Pastries/Scones as well as take home a stocking filled with a Christmas treat .   There were several very important conversations taking place as Santa listened to each child and went over their list making sure to let him know which things they wanted most.  One friend was so enamored with Santa that he went up to him several times just to ask for candy, which I am sure Santa made sure he got!   We loved seeing all the excited kids and families ready to welcome Santa on Christmas Eve with cookies & milk and carrots for the reindeer. We hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday!

Merry and Bright at AOFC

We are in the Christmas Spirit at AOFC from festive doors to Candy Cane experiments we are bringing in the holidays bright and cheery!  All of our Educators did so many amazing holiday doors with themes and some were hand painted while others had the sweet pictures of the kids included and all of them equally creative and screaming with holiday cheer!   Christmas is our favorite to celebrate and we can't to see what the next couple of weeks hold while we wait for the man in the red suit to make his debut.  Wishing you and yours a very happy holiday season!

What a sweet Christmas Village!

So Creative!

Finding out which one will do it? Oil or Water?!

Water was the most successful in removing the stripes of the candy cane!
