Ice Cream With Elsa!

We love being able to bring fun and new events to our school for our children and our families to be able to take part in. For the past few years we have done "Waffles with Olaf" so this year we wanted to change it up just a little bit to keep the magic! For this year, we decided it would be so much fun to invite our girl Elsa over for some ice cream! We had children who had countdowns going and this day marked on their calendars for a whole month! Everyone was so excited to see Elsa and of course to eat ice cream! Just a few days before our event, we also did a dress-up day where everyone was invited to dress-up as a character from "Frozen." The kiddos all loved this so much and we had the sweetest costumes everywhere! Even our boys had on super cool Kristoff costumes! This day really got these sweet littles ready for the big event. Elsa came in the afternoon with Frozen playing on the big screen, coloring sheets, face paint, ice cream, and really cute take home gifts!! This was so much fun and all of our kiddos and parents truly seemed to enjoy it. We love hosting these events and every year they just get better and better. Thank you to everyone who came out and joined in on the fun with us!

Is this not the cutest thing you have ever seen!?

Bounce House Day!

What's better for these kiddos to do on a cold and rainy day then to bounce in our giant bounce house!? Oh right, NOTHING! We love getting to have those random days throughout our year where we blow up the bounce house in our enrichment room, and each class takes turns getting to bounce! The teachers have so much fun getting to watch their kids having the best time ever bouncing away. The only kiddos who are sometimes a little bit nervous to try it out are our youngest toddlers, but once they work up the courage to step inside, they love it! Using the bounce house is a really great way to get those little bodies moovin and groovin! It is excellent exercise for them and a great way to get that energy out and ensure some pretty good naps! We had such a blast getting to put the bounce house to great use this past week! Check out these sweet photos!

Teacher Feature: Ms. Jocelyn

This week I wanted to do a Teacher Feature on someone very special to us here at Forrest Crossing. Ms. Jocelyn, our toddler three teacher has been here with us since November of 2017 and she has been such a huge asset to this school ever since. Jocelyn is absolutely one of the most loyal and dedicated teachers we have seen and we are SO lucky that she chose to come work with us! We all know that it takes a special person to be a preschool teacher, but it take a REALLY special person to be a toddler teacher y'all! Toddlers are forever keeping you on your toes and testing your patience with every chance they get! Ms. Jocelyn has the patience of saint and heart made of gold! Ms. Jocelyn has the most wonderful ability to create strong connections with not only her sweet kiddos, but their parents as well. We believe that these parent/teacher connections are just one of the many reasons that all of our families just dote so hugely on Ms. Jocelyn! One of the comments we hear frequently about Jocelyn is how special she makes each child feel when greeting them in the morning's! Ms. Jocelyn is always smiling so hugely when she sees her kiddos come walking in the door. She will instantly get down on their level and scoop them up for a big giant snuggle! One of my personal favorite's is seeing these babe go R U N N I N G towards her yelling, "Jocey!!!" The affection that she shows towards her babes and even all of the babes that are not in her class is just a prime example of Jocelyn's heart, and just how huge it is :)  We are so grateful for Ms. Jocelyn her leadership. Every teacher that has gotten to teach beside her in her room has truly learned so much! Thank you Ms. Jocelyn for being so reliable, dedicated, kind, joyful, loving, and just plain amazing! We love you so much!

 Circle Time with Ms. Jocey!

Always going "to infinity and beyond" when it comes to dress up days!

These kiddos are always so engaged with their teacher!

I mean... how crazy sweet is this!?

Happy Drill Week!

Boy has this week been super FUN and exciting! We decided to name this week "Drill Week," when we on a whim decided to practice all of our Emergency Disaster Drills all in one week! We practice our drills monthly, however we wanted to really dive into the importance of awareness, and making sure that drills are being taken seriously at all times. Safety is incredibly important to us, and we want to make sure our teachers are prepared at ANY time for any emergency that may come about. We have been incredibly impressed with our teachers this week on their ability to move very quickly, keep the children calm, and knowing exactly what it is that they are supposed to be doing in case of an emergency. We did a fire drill, tornado drill, intruder drill, and an earthquake drill this week! During our tornado drill we were so impressed seeing all of our teachers singing songs and keeping their kiddos entertained and upbeat! Our intruder drill went incredibly well and our new safety locks that we had installed about a year ago are a great addition to that extra security! We are so thankful for our wonderful teachers who are always prepared for any and every situation that is thrown at them. Here are a few examples of our drills that we have been practicing!

Our first drill was our Intruder Drill. These new lockdown locks are amazing. Each classroom has an emergency lockdown lock located right inside their classroom. They are on the wall directly next to the door so you can easily open the box, and grab the lock!

While one teacher is hurrying to have children enter into closets and bathrooms, the other teacher locks the door and then ALSO grabs that lockdown lock, places it into the ground and the door, then turns off the lights!

These kiddos are demonstrating how the Intruder Drill works! Doing so well while "hiding" in the closet! The lights are out in the classroom, and everyone is hidden and out of sight from any doors or windows. To keep the kiddos calm, our teachers sing songs and communicate to each child that everything is O K!

Next we have our Tornado Drill demonstration!

Our kiddos have designated areas in the hallways, away from all windows and doors where they will sit up against the wall, and cover their heads with their hands!

During an Earthquake Drill, our teachers will tell their kiddos to DUCK, COVER, AND HOLD. Our children will go underneath a table or covered surface.

Fire Drills! Our educators and children are so wonderful at these drills. As soon as they hear that fire alarm ringing, teachers calmly instruct the older kiddos to line up at the door, as quickly as possible, and head out the door to their designated safe place.

Infants will be placed into the two emergency cribs located inside of their classroom. The teachers will grab their emergency binders, and make sure to count each child!

Ms. Mandy and her babes have these fire drills down! Ms. Mandy is so great at keeping kiddos calm, and making sure they are not startled or afraid. She constantly sings to them with a soft voice, reminding them that everything is O K!

Practicing our Emergency Disaster Plans is incredibly important to us here at AOFC. Our teachers are prepared at any moment to do exactly what is needed in case of an emergency! Our staff is familiarized with all disaster plans, including "Code Orange" which is a seizure, medical emergencies, and any individualized plans for children with special needs. We are very proud of our educators, lead teachers, assistants, and support staff, for the way they take ALL situations seriously, and familiarize themselves with any and all emergency plans.

Winter is Coming!

With the winter weather being so off and on here in Tennessee, our kiddos have the potential to be stuck inside for the day. Teachers have wonderful creative activities that they plan as a backup plan in case they will be inside all day, but of course everyone's favorite activity it going outside! We love the days where the weather is cool enough to wear a jacket, but the sun is shining enough to make it just perfect! Our kiddos had a blast getting to go out and play today, especially since all last week it was so gloomy and raining. We sure are grateful for days like this! And in January?! The best. Our kiddos love going on the playground and sliding, riding bikes, running around with friends, drawing with chalk, and just using their imaginations with their sweet little friends. We have lots of classrooms that also utilize our super sweet wrap around deck to take their kiddos on nature walks and just enjoy the scenery our school is lucky enough to have. Thank goodness for gorgeous weather y'all! Enjoy these sweet photos of some super cute kiddos :)
