Chopped week

It is Chopped week here at AOFC and that means apple skins flying, soup bubbling and lots of full tummies! This week each classroom got to make their own applesauce for snack and soup for lunch plus there was painting with citrus fruits just to make things a little sweeter ! From the Toddlers to the Pre K 's all the kids loved being able to pour, stir and finally eat the delicious recipes they made in each classroom.  Chopped week inspired all the classes and brought out the inner chef in each one!

Pre K Drive in Movie

Our Pre K drive in was a huge success and there were cars that were big, small and everything in between decorated like Batmobiles, Elsa's Carriage, Range Rovers, and Paw Patrol just to name a few. It was so fun to see the Pre K classes gather for popcorn and The LEGO Movie all while relaxing in there one of a kind homemade cars. So many special memories were made and notes taken for next year's cars to be even more awesome than this years! We can't wait to see what next year will bring us!

The History of Legos and our Lego creations

Did you know: The name 'LEGO' is an abbreviation of the two Danish words "leg godt", meaning  "play well". The LEGO Group was founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Kristiansen. The company has passed from father to son and is now owned by Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, a grandchild of the founder. The brick in its present form was launched in 1958. The interlocking principle with it's tubes makes it unique and offers unlimited building possibilities. It's just a matter of getting the imagination going and and letting a wealth of creative ideas emerge through play. This week is Legoland week at AOFC and we saw some amazing creations being built. Whether they are big or small, have lots of pieces or just a few LEGO's can be created into anything you dream of and its why our kids and teachers love building with them and letting their imaginations run wild!

Concentrating on building something awesome!

I love Legos!

Sculptures with recycled materials

This was a super fun week at AOFC as our Preschool classes put together sculptures made out of recycled materials. Parents brought in everything from boxes and plastic bottles to toilet paper rolls and lids of all shapes and sizes just to name a few. Each classroom worked as a team to create an awesome sculpture made entirely of the recycled materials that the parents and students brought into class. They made everything from fire trucks to robots and just huge towers of stuff that were made from their imaginations!  The recycled sculptures were a great lesson is re using things and also sparked conversations about recycling and why we recycle as well as an opportunity to build things using their imaginations!

Hard at work!

Keeping cool at School

The weather has been hot outside these last few weeks and keeping our friends safe in the heat and sun have been a top priority for us at AOFC.  While having fun in the sun like going through our awesome inflatable obstacle course it was vitally important that lots of water was consumed to stay well hydrated while the kids were going through the course.  Drinking lots of water, playing in the shade when possible, wearing sunscreen, hats, and having water days are just some of the ways that we are staying safe and having fun outside! Its also very important to wear clothes that are loose as well as light in color allowing for running, jumping and playing all while staying cool. Our kids love having fun outside all while following the rules of  being cool at school during the summer!!
