Science Week

We just wrapped up Science Week here at The Academy of Forrest Crossing! We all had so much fun learning about science through various activities. Monday kicked off our science fair. We had so many cool submissions that our tiny scientists worked so hard on. Between flying Lego's, electrically charged balloons, floating eggs, and Earth's gravitation pull, a winner was so hard to pick!! The winner was announced Friday and was awarded a family 4-pack of tickets to The Adventure Science Center! On Tuesday The Fish Guy came to visit us. He brought some special aquatic critters to teach us about. Wednesday was all about water day and on Thursday and Friday we had Grab & Go's set out for our friends to pick up. Our friends were excited to pick up their take-home science experiments and try them out over the weekend. Science week was a blast and we cannot wait for next week when we explore.... MATH!
This friend explained how static electricity worked! He used a balloon to rub on his head to create an electric charge and then made the frogs "jump" onto the balloon.

This friend used marbles and household objects of varying weights to explain gravity and balance. She included a detailed list of how many marbles equaled a specific object.

This friend created his own simple machine to help the superheros and supervillains fly/jump. He was able to test and record how far each character traveled. Who do you think was able to fly/jump the farthest?

His list shows that Black Vulcan was able to travel the farthest. He jumped a whole 45 inches on his second attempt!!

This friend was egg-cited to show us that in a glass of water and egg will sink because the eggs density is higher than the water. In a glass filled with salt and water the egg will float because the saltwater mixture has a higher density then the egg!

How neat is this eggs-periment?

Our friend The Fish Guy shows off his favorite aquatic critters! There is a cute little frog in this tank!

Our friends were able to learn a lot about different creatures that live in the water. What's your favorite sea creature?

When a puffer fish get nervous he goes into "Defense Mode" and puffs out. This makes him look bigger and scarier than most other fish.

The Fish Guy let our friends get an up close look at his collection of fish. They were excited to see such exotic looking animals!

A fun Grab and Go for some weekend fun. Our friends are able to create some awesome sidewalk masterpieces!

A fun take-home science experiment for our friends to try out at home. This neat hands on project will get those gears turning in he minds of our little scientists.

Step by step instructions on how to create this awesome balloon rocket that is sure to soar through the air!

Wave your magic wand!

Say the magic word and wave your wand! The magic show is about to begin! Our kiddos had so much fun watching our friend, the magician, put on an elaborate show with fun tricks and even a special furry guest! Our Power Of Play theme for the week was Imagination which went hand in hand with the magic show. Our friends got to use their imaginations as the magician made things disappear. We had some brave volunteers help execute awesome tricks by saying the magic words, "Pickle Pizza" and waving magic wands! We love to use our imaginations and had so much fun watching the magic show. Stay tuned for more fun shows coming to the Academy of Forrest Crossing!
We are ready for the show to begin. Grab your thinking caps, turn on your imagination, and get ready for some AWESOME tricks!

Waving the magic wand to make a ring disappear! Where will it go? Will we ever find it?

Using our imagination to help our friend the magician with a cool trick! What will we imagine up next?

So many wands! We are not sure what to do with them all! I bet we could do a lot of magic tricks at once!

What's inside the bag? Nothing! But I will make something neat magically appear!

Shaking our fluffy friends paw! Its nice to meet you bunny friend!

Remember that ring I made disappear? Well, here it is!! I have made it magically appear on my finger!

What trick will we do next? This magic hat is full of endless possibilities!

Water Day Fun!

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and water day is in full swing! We are having so much fun splashing around on our giant water slide! This month, for Power of Play, we are focusing on blocks and construction. We included some fun blocks and building toys in the water buckets for our little ones to put their imagination and creativity to the test. Our toddler friends had a blast with the water walls and using the funnels at the water table. The preschool and pre-k friends raced to see how many times they could slide down the big slide and how quickly they could climb up the wall! We love water day and cannot wait for many more to come!

Look at this giant slide! Our friends look forward to water day all week long!

Construction and blocks themed water bucket. I wonder what they will build?

The wheels are turning in his head! His imagination is taking him to so many fun places.

Thinking about all the fun places she can dump the water. Do you think she will pour it into a funnel? Or maybe she will use the water to fill up a squirt animal!

We love water day! Can't water day be everyday?

Splashing, dancing, and jumping around are just some of our favorite things to do in the water.

Water day is better with your best friends!

How fast can I slide down? How many times can I slide down? The fun and possibilities are endless!

The water table helps our friends create fun rain showers and explore how different toys work when water is added.

Look at how much fun I am having on water day! There are so many activities to choose from!

Exploring the different toys! We can measure the water, pour it into spinners, fill up squirting animals, and so much more!

We are climbing so high!

Getting ready to set a record for fastest slider!

Getting our bodies moving and our muscles pumping as we climb up the wall!

Looking like a professional wall climber! Working very hard to be the fastest climber!
